Biography

Indian-American soprano Syona Ayyankeril is a classical crossover singer based in the San Francisco Bay Area.

Syona has performed regularly with Lamplighters Music Theatre, having recently starred as Mabel in The Pirates of Penzance, Aline in The Sorcerer, and Josephine in HMS Pinafore. She also recently made her Pocket Opera debut as Barbarina in The Marriage of Figaro.

From 2021-2023 she trained in the Opera Ithaca Apprentice Artist Program, where she performed in company recitals and youth outreach programs, participated in the workshop of a new opera, and sang in the choruses of Orpheus in the Underworld, Le nozze di Figaro, and Highway 1, USA.

In 2025 she completed her Master of Music degree in voice at the San Francisco Conservatory of Music, where she is currently a postgraduate student in the studio of Catherine Cook.

Her roles at SFCM have included Cunegonde in Candide and Phoebe D’ysquith in A Gentleman’s Guide to Love and Murder. In 2026 she will sing La Fée in Massenet’s Cendrillon and play Rona Lisa Peretti in The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee.

Syona holds both a Professional Certificate in Opera Direction (2022) and a Bachelor of Music in Voice and Theatre (2021) from Ithaca College. At SFCM she has directed in the Graduate Opera Workshop ensemble and served as an assistant director and assistant stage manager for the Opera and Musical Theatre Department.
